The Worrying Rise Of Mental Health Problems In Children & Young People

Jan 24, 2025
Group of young people looking sad and fed up
Recently released figures in the UK (2023) showed the number of children requiring treatment for serious mental health problems had risen sharply in just a year.
These figures include children who are suicidal, self-harming, depressed, anxious and those with eating disorders.
If we look back at the figures for previous years, we can see a really worrying upward trend with 2023's figure showing a 39% increase on the year before.
The latest NHS statistics (2024) show that more than 500 children a day in England are being referred to mental health services for anxiety alone, and this is more than double the numbers being referred pre the pandemic.
So what's going on? What is causing the rise in numbers of children and young people suffering mental health problems?
In today's video (which I first shared back in 2023) and those in the week's to come, I will be attempting to shed some light on this question, and offering some possible solutions.
Warmest wishes
